OUR JOURNEY
My love for Bulgarian folklore began in early childhood when I joined the “Graovska Mladost” ensemble at the Youth Community Centre in Pernik. It was there that I first experienced the magic of the stage - the anticipation before stepping out, the pulse of the music, and the beauty of the traditional Bulgarian costume, each one telling stories from the past. Captivated by the power of tradition and inspired to pass it on, I went on to study Bulgarian Folk Choreography, qualifying as a choreographer and teacher under the guidance of Associate Professor Yordan Yanakiev at South-West University “Neofit Rilski” in Blagoevgrad. For me, dance has never been simply movement - it is memory, spirit and identity. After completing my studies, I worked as a dance teacher at a primary school in the town of Dupnitsa, where folk dance was taught alongside Bulgarian language and mathematics. I firmly believe that folklore forms an important part of a child’s emotional and cultural education.
In 2013, I founded the “Bulgarka” club in Tonbridge, Kent, and, in 2016, the “Pirina” group, creating a living connection to Bulgaria for people living abroad. Today, these groups are far more than dance ensembles - they represent community, friendship and a shared love for our heritage.
My mission remains the same: to keep our traditions alive and pass them on to future generations with pride and joy.
